Prevent T2: United Health Care and Unidos Contra la Diabetes to distribute 1000 health kits
McAllen, TX – March 31, 2022 –Unidos Contra La Diabetes (UCD) announced it received a $20K grant from United Healthcare to aid in Diabetes Prevention efforts in the Rio Grande Valley. The Prevent T2 project seeks to create awareness and provide education about Type 2 diabetes. UCD Partners will have a huge impact by providing the health kits to children living in the RGV; raise awareness and prevention about type 2 diabetes.
UCD’s project will deliver health kits containing health education materials to partner organizations that conduct Diabetes Prevention efforts across Starr, Hidalgo Cameron and Willacy counties. The goal of the of the kits is to promote health awareness and maintain a safe and healthy lifestyle. The health kits will include information on Diabetes, Latino nutrition choices, Life Is Sweet Enough water bottle and information linking them to resources in the community. Additionally, the kits will include as personal protective equipment items for participants to stay healthy throughout the current pandemic.
Moises Arjona stated at the launch this morning “type 2 diabetes can be prevented, and we are in a crisis, our youth are at risk for type 2 diabetes, which can be prevented”.
